Marshfield (OnFocus) – The City of Marshfield Finance, Budget, and Personnel committee Thursday night discussed the 2020 termination of a Marshfield Police Officer, as part of Step 3 of the grievance process under Article 27 of the collective bargaining agreement between the City of Marshfield and the Marshfield Police Officer Bargaining Unit (Marshfield Professional Police Association).

The grievance was filed earlier this year by the Marshfield Professional Police Association (MPPA) and former police officer Jared Beauchamp. Beauchamp was an officer with the Marshfield Police Department for 21 years and was terminated earlier this year after repeatedly failing a timed physical fitness test. The annual fitness test, which was developed with help from a consultant to specifically meet Marshfield’s policing needs, was added to MPD employee contracts in May 2019.

At Thursday’s meeting, the committee discussed the issue in closed session. After re-entering open session, they voted 4-1 against reinstatement. Alderman Nick Poeschel was the singular vote.
