City Communicates OnFocus – The Marshfield Common Council delayed consideration of a new Request for Proposals (RFP) for cable TV services in the city for a new contract to begin April 1, 2019. The current contract with Tri-Media for Marshfield Community Television is set to expire on March 31.

Several Council Members expressed concerns over the timeline, since the current Communications Committee is planning to make a recommendation on improving city communications.

Alderman Tom Buttke, Chair of the new Communications Committee, wasn’t in favor of the timeline. “We hopefully will be done the 27th. We don’t even know what direction for sure we’re going with any of that yet. I mean this is sort of, why are we having the committee, if you’re going out for proposals on something that we aren’t recommending yet?”

“This came as a recommendation from the Cable TV Committee. I don’t think they’re really directly working in conjunction with that new committee that you’re a part of,” said Steve Barg, City Administrator. “You can certainly try to delay the timeline a little bit. This was just their best shot thinking. If we get proposals by October 31, then here’s a way we’ll go through reviewing them.”

Alderman Tom Buttke moved to delay consideration of the RFP for a month. Alderman Tom Witzel moved to amend the motion for it to be delayed until the next council meeting on September 25. Both motions passed on a 7-3 vote with Alders Jockheck, Earll, and Spiros voting no on both the amendment and motion.

The RFP debate will be resumed at the September 25 meeting.
