Abbotsford (OnFocus) – The Ruesch Family Farm will host the Abbotsford FFA Alumni Dairy Breakfast on Sunday, and the event is sure to be well attended after the pandemic limited dairy breakfasts last summer.
The return of dairy breakfasts is something the Abbotsford FFA Alumni looks forward to, and for the Ruesch Family, the decision to host the breakfast this year was a no-brainer.
“We have been part of the FFA Alumni for the past 10 years and are always looking for farms to host. We felt that it was time to take our turn,” said Dave Ruesch. “There are less farms in the area and we want to represent and promote agriculture.”

Becky and Dave Ruesch have been involved with farming their whole lives, and farming is truly a passion that has been built over the years.
“Dave’s parents started farming here in 1973. Dave moved back home in 1997 to farm with his dad. We were married in 2001 and started our farming journey in a partnership with his parents,” Becky explained. “Our 1st expansion plus parlor happened in 2005 and we went from 40 cows to 90. In 2013, we purchased the farm. In 2017, we built the new freestall barn and expanded the parlor.”
Along with children Logan, Mya and Calley, Dave and Becky have grown the farm considerably.
“We are currently milking 160 cows with another 150 head of youngstock on the farm. We crop 650 acres of bean, wheat, hay and corn,” Dave shared.
Becky grew up on a dairy farm in Dodge County, and then moved to the area with her family. Dave grew up on the family farm and attended UW-River Falls, majoring in broad area agriculture and minoring in agriculture business. Dave then worked 8 years in the animal nutrition field before the couple expanded the farming operations.
The small army of volunteers it takes to run a dairy breakfast is prepared to give everyone a wonderful experience down on the farm, and Dave shared hosting the farm has provided a big benefit everyone might not realize.
“It’s a good excuse to give the farm a cleaning that should have been done at some point,” Dave commented.
The Ruesch Family is excited to host this year’s dairy breakfast, and all signs point to a large number of people stopping by.
“We hope for a nice day and turnout,” Dave said.
In the spirit and tradition of family farms, the Abbotsford FFA Alumni and the Ruesch Family wants everyone to not only have a great breakfast, but to connect to agriculture. This writer, whose grandfather was a dairy farmer and mom was renowned for showing Jersey Cows, was pleased to hear how dedicated the Ruesch Family is with championing the progress of agriculture.
“We want people to attend and see how agriculture has evolved,” Dave added. “We feel that agriculture is further removed from people and want to share our side.”
