Chaparral’s Winning Streak Snapped in Loss to Cavaliers

Marshfield – An 11-game winning streak came to an end Wednesday night for the Marshfield Chaparrals as the team fell to the Eau Claire Cavaliers 9-7 at Jack Hackman Field.

The Chaparrals scored its first two runs of the game on a two RBI double by third baseman Luke Wirtz in the bottom of the first inning to give Marshfield a 2-1 lead.

Eau Claire countered the score with a four-run fifth inning to reclaim the lead 5-2.

Marshfield retook the lead from Eau Claire 7-5, scoring one run in the fifth inning and four more runs in the sixth.

The Cavaliers held Marshfield scoreless the rest of the game and reclaimed the lead for the final time in the top of the eighth with a three-run inning, before scoring an insurance run in the ninth inning to help seal the win.

Pitcher Lucas Gobrecht was credited with the win for Eau Claire. Gobrecht pitched three scoreless innings and surrendered just four hits.

Despite the loss, the Chaparrals remain second in the Dairyland League with an 8-1 record (13-2 overall).

Marshfield will host the third place Everest Merchants (6-2 in league play) tonight at Jack Hackman Field in an important Dairyland League game as the schedule nears August. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
