MARSHFIELD, WI (OnFocus) – An officer responded to a vehicle versus bicyclist crash at 14th Street and Oak Avenue on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 1:54 p.m.

The officer arrived to see a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old Pittsville woman stopped/parked in the northern crosswalk facing southbound in the right turn lane. A bicycle was near the front of the vehicle.

A 30-year-old Marshfield man was riding his bike eastbound on the northern sidewalk of West 14th Street and believed westbound traffic had a green light. He did not stop to press the button to request the walk signal which is present for pedestrians at that intersection.

The woman indicated she thought she had a green light and was about to make a right hand tum on to W 14th St. The woman inferred she did not see the bicyclist prior to the crash.

An ambulance arrived promptly and the bike was moved from the roadway. It had a bent front tire and twisted handlebars.

The man was placed on a backboard and transported to Marshfield Medical Center where he was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Police closed the intersection for about 15 minutes as they picked up the bike and investigated the situation.

No citations were issued to the involved parties as both were at fault.
