OnFocus – The Milwaukee Brewers announced that they have signed Auburndale native and UW-Stevens Point alum Jordan Zimmermann to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The Brewers will add Zimmermann as a depth piece to their organizational starting pitching staff which includes Brandon Woodruff, Corbin Burnes, Adrian Houser and Josh Lindblom to name a few.

The former Cy Young contender enjoyed two All-Star seasons while with the Washington Nationals including a 2014 campaign in which he posted a 2.66 ERA and won 14 of his 19 decisions.

Zimmermann finished his Nationals tenure eighth in franchise history in wins and seventh in strikeouts. The Nationals drafted him 67th overall in the 2007 draft.

Zimmermann most recently pitched for the Detroit Tigers for five years. His five-year, $110 million agreement with the Tigers was a tough one as he missed virtually all of the 2020 season with an injury and struggled at times throughout his tenure there.

Over the course of his career, Zimmermann has won 95 games, struck out 1,271 batters and has a career ERA of 4.06.

Zimmermann pitched at UW-Stevens Point from 2005-2007, earning a first-team All American nod and taking the Pointers to the College World Series in 2007.
