OnFocus – At Monday’s Board of Public Works meeting, the board approved the 2021-2023 Asphalt Paving List. Each year, the City’s Capital Improvement Program allots roughly $2 million for street improvements. This list serves as a guideline for which streets are expected to be fixed, but doesn’t include emergency repairs and is flexible to allow for any needs that might arise. All decisions are ultimately approved by the Common Council, and residents that have concerns about their street are encouraged to contact their alderman.

Utilizing the City’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology and visual inspection by experts from the Street Division, Public Works evaluates all 143 street miles using a scale in compliance with the Department of Transportation (DOT). Rated on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being the worst condition and 10 being a new road, street quality is reported to the DOT every two years.
