The Big 8 Conference, which contains schools from the Madison, Janesville, and Beloit area cancelled all 2020 fall conference sporting events.
“Since all member schools are not able to participate fully in conference contests during the current fall season dates as scheduled, Big 8 Conference competitions will not be held and conference champions will not be named,” the conference said in a statement.
The measure to cancel the season passed 10-0. Sun Prairie and Middleton had already announced that they would begin the school year with virtual learning, not allowing them to participate in sports activities.
“All schools will be supported in their local decisions,” the statement continued. “Schools may have the option to schedule non-conference competitions in any fall sport, so along as they follow the guidance of the WIAA and local public health officials.”
The Big 8 Conference is made up of Beloit Memorial, Janesville Craig, Janesville Parker, Madison East, Madison La Follette, Madison Memorial, Madison West, Middleton, Sun Prairie, and Verona Area.
