What to Read After Bridgerton

After Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton book series was adapted for Netflix, the steamy series was an instant hit. Viewers worldwide fell in love with Daphne & Simon in Season 1, with Season 2 poised for release later in March 2022 to featured Anthony and Kate’s story.  As a result, readership for the beloved series also took off. The book series consists of 8 books – each one following a different Bridgerton sibling. Wondering what Regency Romance to read after you finish the Bridgerton series? Here are some recommendations:

Rokesbys Series by Julia Quinn

If you can’t get enough of Julia Quinn, she has a plethora of other romance series to explore! The Rokesbys series takes place before Bridgerton and acts as a prequel of sorts. It features the same style of sweet romances that make Bridgerton so popular, with a cute look at how the Bridgerton family came to be.

Wallflowers series by Lisa Kleypas

Lisa Kleypas is a romance queen and writes in such a detailed way that you are transported right into the world of her characters. You can tell she does her research of the time period, and she explores more than the Mayfair ballroom scene. In this series, four wallflowers band together to find husbands. Each of the men in this series is so unique and unexpected. The character development is exceptional, the romances deep, and the emotions hit hard.

The Girls Who Dare Series by Emma V Leech

Emma V Leech is a lesser-known author on this list, but deserves a place in the charts. A prolific writer with a talent for interweaving narratives throughout different books, building scenes, and creating deep characters for whom the reader feels all the feelings… it’s a good thing she writes so quickly because her books are hard to put down. In this series, eleven wallflowers form a club called “The Peculiar Ladies.” Each woman must pull a dare from a hat and complete that dare within a certain amount of time. They form strong friendships with each other and deep romantic relationships with the men they choose. Featuring childhood friendships turned romance, unlikely pairings, surprise couplings, and the build of all builds (Matilda = all the feels!), it’s a series you’ll want to read in order and read over and over again.

League of Extraordinary Women Series by Evie Dunmore

Four bluestockings at Oxford University (the first women to attend) navigate their way through the evolving Victorian world in pursuit of women’s rights… and love. Featuring a vicar’s daughter, natural leader, and an heiress, and book 4 still to come… these books are rich in detail and powerful in both message and action. This is the first series by this author and it will be exciting to see what she comes up with next.

Spindle Cove Series by Tessa Dare

Spindle Cove is a haven for women on the outskirts. It’s where well-bred, shy young ladies, young wives disenchanted with matrimony, and young girls too enchanted with the wrong men go to recover and regroup. The men who show up here are few and far between, but the right ones seem to find their way, too. Tessa Dare narrates her books with her signature wit and humor, writing adorable love stories with both heart and depth.

Rules of Scoundrels Series by Sarah MacLean

You can’t really go wrong with anything by Sarah MacLean (Bonus Tip: Her “Love By Numbers series is also great!) Her Rules of Scoundrels series highlights four aristocrats now exiled from society that are now royalty in the London underworld. Taking place on the outskirts of approved society, this series is a fascinating look at a different part of Regency London.

School for Dukes by Lenora Bell

Lenora Bell has a plethora of romance books to choose from, all featuring her clever humor and relatable characters. In the charming School for Dukes series, arrogant dukes meet challenging females and sparks fly. The men are sexy, the women smart, and the stories unique and perfect for a Sunday afternoon read.

Romance books have a certain connotation, but anyone that has fallen in love (pun intended) with the genre will vouch for the fact that a good romance features compelling stories, skillful writing and plot development, and rich settings.
