Auburndale Shuts Out Abbotsford

Auburndale (OnFocus) – Homecoming for the Auburndale Eagles proved to be the ideal atmosphere Auburndale Football Team, which steadily controlled in their Marawood Conference matchup with Abbotsford, picking up a 21-0 win over the Falcons.

After Abbotsford was stopped on the initial possession at the Eagles’ 15 yard line, Auburndale marched down the field in short order, scoring when quarterback Trayton Weber scored on a 34 yard run with 5:08 left.

Abbotsford appeared to have fought right back when senior running back Ty Falteisek scored from 46 yards out early in the second quarter. The play was nullified by a penalty, and the loss of the momentum turned out to be  huge for Auburndale.

Falteisek’s run was one for the highlight reels, dancing and avoiding would-be tacklers and pulling others along for the ride on his route to the end zone.

Fellow senior running back Terrance Roberson-Cottrell showed he was ready to showcase his own skills after the Falcons punted, as he rambled 38 yards for the Eagles’ second touchdown with 10:25 to go in the second quarter.

Abbotsford was ready to fight back in the third quarter, forcing the Eagles to punt after a three and out.

Three plays later, Abbotsford marched quickly down the field with a pair of runs by Falteisek on both ends of sophomore quarterback JV Castillo’s run. On the fourth play, the Falcons were stymied, however, as a fumble to the one yard line was recovered by the Eagles.

Late in the third quarter, Auburndale put the game out of reach when Weber sprinted through the Falcons’ defense untouched for a 72 yard score.

Weber rushed for a game-high 153 yards on 17 carries.

Falteisek had 144 yards on 30 carries for the Falcons.

The teams each had 8 penalties in the game.
