Auburndale (OnFocus) – It’s been a long wait for football fans and football teams to start the 2020 season. The wait is finally over, and the season is now here.

We take a look at the Auburndale Eagles with our Season Preview. We reached out to Coach Jay Anderson for some thoughts on this football season, giving us a glimpse into how the Eagles are getting ready for this year.

OnFocus: How has your coaching staff and team prepared for this season?

Anderson:  Our overall numbers in the Senior and Junior classes are a concern.  Depth is a concern for our Varsity team. Moving to 8-man will also be such a new experience that there is a lot of uncertainty.  We were able to answer a lot of questions on Saturday but we still have depth concerns due to some early injuries and illness.  To start the season against a team like Athens as a scrimmage was very helpful in getting us prepared for a team that won the 2018 8-man State Championship team in Sevastopol.

OnFocus: Season forecast – What should fans expect to see out of your team this year?

Anderson: Our main goal is to prepare and play hard.  Enjoy every opportunity and have fun. We return some players with experience:

Hunter Wright – All-Conference WR moved to QB;  Schuyler Gilhausen – 2nd Team All-Conference LB,  RB and LB, a very intense and focused football player;Kaden Hoffman RB/WR

Junior Terrence Roberson will be starting RB and I am expecting big things from him.
Junior Jesse Fowler is returning starter on both sides of the line.  Along with Senior Anival Martinez, who returns with starting experience, I am expecting them to play big roles in our offense and defense.
