The Athens School District renamed their baseball field in memory of Tucker Westfall in a dedication ceremony prior to Friday’s Marawood Conference game against Edgar. Westfall was a freshman on last year’s baseball team before passing away on June 2, 2018 in a UTV accident.

Major renovations were done to the field over the summer which included a new scoreboard and dugouts, and field improvements. The memorials include a bust of Tucker, an eagle flag (Tucker’s favorite animal), and a new sign for the field. Later this year, a metal eagle will also be installed in the Athens High School Gym.

The incident came shortly before the team was set to compete in the 2018 Division 4 State Sectionals in White Lake. Athens won both games at state, defeating Pittsville 14-1 in 5 innings in the semifinal before defeating Wausaukee 10-0 in 5 innings. The Bluejays won the Division 4 State Title, defeating Thorp in the Championship game 13-10 after dispatching Ithica in the state semifinals.

After the ceremony, Athens went on to defeat Edgar 16-6 in 6 innings.
