Stevens Point, WI (OnFocus) – Starting February 19, there will be another option for hospital care in Stevens Point with the opening of an eight-bed medical/surgical inpatient unit at Aspirus.

The $3 million, 6,000-square-foot expansion adds overnight care for medical and surgical patients, including emergency patients who need to stay for observation. The ability to care for patients overnight also enables Aspirus Stevens Point to offer surgeries that it previously could not accommodate.

“We are working to ensure that all the communities we serve have local access to the health care services they need,” said Matt Heywood, Aspirus President & CEO. “Sometimes that requires new buildings. Sometimes it’s new providers or new services. But it always means improving for you.”

Aspirus Stevens Point opened as a clinic in 2006, underwent an extensive expansion in 2017, an opened an emergency department in 2018. The new hospital unit adds 18 jobs to Aspirus Stevens Point, including three new hospitalist advanced practice clinicians (APCs).

The public is invited to tour the new hospital unit on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 9-11 a.m at Aspirus Stevens Point located at 5409 Vern Holmes Drive. Tour guests are asked to use the main entrance.

Aspirus Stevens Point recently celebrated the addition of an eight-bed inpatient hospital unit. Holding the ceremonial ribbon are Robert Smith, Vice President – Aspirus Stevens Point, and Debra Loken, Manager – Inpatient Nursing & Surgical Services for Aspirus Stevens Point. Cutting the ribbon are (from left) Ryan Kernosky, City of Stevens Point Community Development Director, Dr. Steven Phillipson, Aspirus Director of Hospital Medicine, and Matt Heywood, Aspirus President & CEO. A public open house will be held February 15, from 9 to 11 am.
