Abbotsford (OnFocus) – Senior Night for the Abbotsford Girls Basketball program saw five Falcon seniors recognized for their contributions to Abbotsford Falcons. The outcome of the game was a memorable experience for the five, as Abbotsford pulled away from Rib Lake in the second half for a 48-35 Marawood win.

Senior Catie Clement buried a pair of three pointers in the game’s first 7 minutes, and with an 11-6 lead, Abby was rolling. The Abbotsford lead grew to as much as 8 in the opening half before Rib Lake stormed back to knot the game at 24 with 2:45 left. Rib Lake’s attempt to take the lead on the final possession of the half ended with a block from freshman Briseida Escalera. Despite the tie, the Falcons’ had gained a slight dose of momentum, and it showed after the break.

Fellow Falcons’ freshman Sydney Falteisek got Abby going with a bucket on the first possession of the second half, the start of a 10-0 run by the Falcons. Trailing 34-24 with under 13 minutes to go, the Redmen kept up the intensity and stayed in the game.

Leading 38-30, Falteisek came up big for Abbotsford, spearheading the charge to a comfortable cushion for the Falcons.

Falteisek scored to push the lead to 40-30 and then with 4:23 to go, her block prevented an easy lay up the Redmen.  On the offensive end, Falteisek connected on four free throws on consecutive possessions  to push the lead to 44-31 with two minutes remaining, and the win was sealed.

Falcons’ senior Mya Ruesch had 12 points, with Clement and Falteisek each adding 9 points.

Rib Lake senior Nellie Hopkins had 14 points to pace the Redmen.
