Conference outlook
The conference will be extremely competitive. Phillips lost a few key starters, but always put together a very competitive team. Athens has been a tough match up for us the past few years and return basically everyone. Prentice will be a bit more seasoned and ready to compete this year. Rib Lake has some young talent that will give teams some problems and Chequamegon has some good numbers, so I think they will show up and compete on a nightly basis.
Keys to your success this season:
We will be a bit undersized, so keeping teams out of system.
We are working to run an extremely fast offense to create solo blocks for all our hitters.
Our serve receive being consistent so we can run the offense that we want.
Behind the scenes: Who are some of the people that help your program succeed?
We have quite a few people that assist with our program and wish I could speak a little bit about all of them. There are a couple that go above and beyond. Coach Rau has been running the youth program for years, which might make her eligible for sainthood. Krista Keech does everything for the program from keeping our scorebook to organizing preseason events, and Timoly Brodhagen has started to set up youth camps to get the Littles excited about volleyball and continue our growth into the future.
Coach’s comments: anything else you’d like to share?
We have extremely high expectations for this team. Half of our “newcomers” were Varsity players last year that just received limited playing time, but we expect large contributions from them this year. We are expecting to compete for a conference title, and while our journey has ended in regionals since 2004, we have our sights set on changing that this year.
