SPORTSDESK – On Tuesday night in Wisconsin Rapids, all of central Wisconsin will be treated to basketball euphoria as the #4 Newman Cardinals visit the #6 Assumption Royals. The game is a rematch of a December 11th 62-52 win by the home Newman Cardinals.

The Royals trail the Cardinals by two games in the Marawood South standings and a win on Tuesday night would give them hope to perhaps share a conference title. With only two games on the schedule after Tuesday, the Royals would seem to be in a must win situation to have any title hopes.

As for the Cardinals, they are in the driver’s seat coming in to the game with a 2.5 game advantage over the Royals and one game clear of the second place Stratford Tigers. After Tuesday, they face Rib Lake and Edgar who sport a combined 7-19 season record. With only Edgar as a conference opponent, the Cardinals win would clinch at least a share of the Marawood South and give them all the argument needed for a #1 seed in the WIAA playoffs.

We sat down with Assumption Royal head coach, Ryan Klein, to talk about Tuesday’s game.

We also spoke with Newman Caridnals head coach, Jason Vanden Elzen, to talk about Tuesday’s game.
