Creative Arts Day Canceled, May Be Rescheduled

(OnFocus) 4-H programs and events will be canceled or postponed until April 10 following UW-Madison’s announcement on Wednesday that it would suspend face-to-face instruction due to concerns about the spread of novel coronavirus COVID-19 and the health of students.

The university’s move to use alternative means to conduct classes until at least April applies to Division of Extension programs as well, which includes 4-H.

Creative Arts Day scheduled for March 21 in Wisconsin Rapids has been cancelled but the event may be held at a later date, stated Wood County Extension in a letter to area 4-H leaders and volunteers.

“Our young people and volunteers who have worked so hard on their performances are going to be terribly disappointed. Creative Arts Day means a lot to our 4-H family, and they look forward to this opportunity every year,” said Laura Huber, 4-H Program Coordinator, in the letter. “I trust that you will help them understand the situation we face. We are a community, and it is our job to help keep friends, family-members, and even strangers within our communities stay safe and healthy by limiting the spread of disease.”

All campus events that gather more than 50 people are cancelled, including Division of Extension sponsored events outside Dane County. Smaller events will be reconsidered if the event draws people from a wide geographic area or includes participants who are more at-risk to the virus, such as the elderly and those with compromised immune systems.

On Wednesday, three more COVID-19 cases were confirmed by the the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) Fond du Lac County Health Department, and Waukesha County Public Health Department.

The Waukesha County patient was exposed while traveling internationally and in the U.S. One of the Fond du Lac County patients was exposed while traveling in the U.S, the other internationally. One patient is hospitalized while the others are isolated at home.

Six cases have been confirmed in Wisconsin since early February. Updated information about COVID-19 can be found at www.dhs.wisconsin.gov.
