Both freshmen bring a lot to the table as competitors. It’s gonna be fun watching them as we get into the meat of our season.
Conference outlook:
We have 4 upperclassmen that made a splash last year and all 4 have their sights set on the top of the podium for the GNC Tournament in February. We also have a handful of younger wrestlers looking to break into those top spots this year. As long as the team stays healthy, we should be able to compete for a conference title.
Keys to your success this season:
Keeping the wrestlers healthy & focused throughout the season. We spend a lot of time battling one another in the practice room, so we have to reign the team in as coaches just to make sure we don’t get too beat up before we go compete. We go to some tough tournaments and we scheduled meets against really good programs so we’ll definitely be faced with some adversity. As coaches we’ll have to make sure the wheels don’t fall off the wagon so we can continue to build for those February competitions when all the work really comes to fruition.

Behind the scenes: Who are some of the people that help your program succeed?

I cannot give enough credit to the coaching staff. From the assistants to the volunteers, they all do a great job working with all the wrestlers to learn & execute technique as well as keeping them engaged throughout the season. We also have an excellent group of supportive parents that are willing to help in any way possible while giving the coaches space to coach.
Coach’s comments: anything else you’d like to share?
I would like to urge anyone reading this to support the sport of wrestling however they can. It is a great sport that builds strong, independent young adults and any kid can find success just from learning the sport. There is no advantage/disadvantage for one body shape or the other, one’s success is a direct correlation with their effort and willingness to be coached.
