OnFocus Neillsville/Granton Football Season Preview

Coaching staff

Head Coach: Reed Lehman

Assistant Coaches: Chris Poeschel, Jason Kurth, and Nate McDonald

2021 Neillsville Football Schedule

Offense:  key returning players

Some of our key returners on offense are offensive linemen Mason Roenz and Kaleb Walsh and receiver Ian Zoschke.

Defense: key returning players

Our key returning players on defense are defensive backs Eastan Swita, Ian Zoschke, Andrew Brown, and Micah Zoschke and linebackers Jace Pekol and Garrett Learman.

Conference outlook

I would argue that we have one of the best small school conferences in the state, where every week is a battle and there is never an easy game. Some of the top teams in our conference will probably be Stanley-Boyd, Regis, Mondovi, and Durand.

Keys to your success on offense

Our number one key to success on offense this year is going to be understanding and executing our assignments, especially up front. Another key is going to be being able to run the ball. We want to be able to use the run to open up the pass, but also not be predictable in our play calls.

Keys to your success on defense

The number one key to success on defense this year for us is going to be tackling. Over the past 3 years we have been getting better as a whole team with our tackling, and we need to continue to build on that. One of our strengths on defense this year should be our defensive backs, so hopefully they will be able to make some big plays and take the ball away from the offense often.

Behind the scenes: Who are some of the people that help your program succeed?

The main people that help our program succeed would be my assistant coaches. We put in a lot of time together in the offseason to get everything ready for the fall.

What is Neillsville/Granton football all about? What does it mean to be a member of the Neillsville/Granton football program?

Football is all about being a part of a team and the football family. We do our best to push that mentality, and this year our team has really done a great job of sticking together and being there for each other.  There are so many great life lessons that can be learned in football and really no where else in my opinion.

Coach’s comments: anything else you’d like to share?

I am super excited for this season and getting to work with the wonderful group of young men that are on the team. This is a group that really wants to get Neillsville-Granton Football back on a winning track!
