Auburndale softball loses to Marathon, edges Assumption in extra innings

AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale softball team split a pair of Marawood Conference South Division games on Thursday and Friday.

Auburndale lost to Marathon 5-3 on Thursday and came back to beat Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 5-4 on Friday to sweep the season series from the Royals.

Auburndale rallied twice and finally topped Assumption with a run in the bottom of the ninth.

Assumption led 2-1 after three innings before the Apaches scored twice in the fourth. After Assumption scored in the top of the seventh, Auburndale tied it with a tally in the bottom of the frame.

The score held at 4-4 until the Apaches won it in the ninth.

Hailey Grimm threw a complete game for Auburndale, scattering eight hits and struck out eight. She also had two hits and an RBI, as did Alexis Soppe.

In the loss to Marathon on Thursday, Mackenzie Raab was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, Faith Hafermann hit a home run, and Abby Koopman had two hits and two RBIs for the Apaches.

Auburndale hosts Edgar on Tuesday.
