Over $4 million is being spent on local road improvements in 2018.
Streets are rated on a ten-point scale, with a ten being brand new, down to one, which means the road needs total reconstruction. Other needs, such as with sewer, water, and infrastructure, are also considered to help determine which streets get looked at first.
“Unfortunately, our list of streets is longer than our funding availability,” said Dan Knoeck, Public Works Director. “We can’t get at everything as quickly as we’d like to, but the rating system helps us prioritize which streets to be done first.”
Below is a list of streets undergoing improvements:
-26th and Central: Replace pavement on outside driving lane due to deterioration.
-21st Street: Ditching, resetting driveway culverts, drain tile, asphalt work. Practiced in residential neighborhoods with lower traffic volumes. Driveway approaches replaced.

-29th Street: Brand new pavement, storm sewer work, replacing culvert at Butternut Parkway, new sidewalk on North side. Only 20% of local funding was used, which maximizes dollars.
