Marshfield PD Returns Body Cameras

The body camera program at the Marshfield Police Department is suspended after technical issues forced them to return the product purchased 13 months ago. However, the department is working to purchase more from a different vendor.

“It’s important to get that look from the officer’s standpoint as far as the events that they’re are dealing with,” said Assistant Police Chief Patrick Zeps. “For us, it was an easy decision to go to body cameras.”

The body camera program was suspended after technical issues combined with poor customer service from the supplier. The department, however, is by no means moving away from body cameras.

“The body camera program has been a huge success,” said Zeps. “Fast forward a year, the officers like the body cameras. In fact, with the suspension of the program, there’s some apprehension on their part because they’ve come to rely on that body camera to tell an accurate picture of what’s going on.”

The department will choose a more established vendor for the new body cameras, which will include cloud-based storage and new redaction software. Costs will be spread over five years.
