Charles G. Hastreiter was born to eternal life, passing peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer on Sunday, October 14, 2018.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, October 19, 2018 at St. John’s Catholic Church with Rev. Samuel Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. A visitation will take place from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday at Rembs Funeral Home and from 9:30 am until service time at the church. Pallbearers will be Jack, Wil, Max, Jake, Calvin and Kaleb.

Charles was born at home in Marshfield, WI on December 27, 1936 to Anton and Helen (Hornick) Hastreiter, the youngest of seven children. He attended St. John’s School, graduated from Columbus High School in 1954, received his degree from De Vry Tech Institute in Chicago, and served in the National Guard, stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington. While attending De Vry, he worked as a TV Service Repair man. Upon graduation, he moved to St. Paul and was employed as an electronic technician at Remington Rand Univac. He returned to Marshfield to join the family business, Hastreiter Brothers Plastering, and soon thereafter met Patricia (Patti) A Theurer whom he married on October 8, 1966. Later, he worked for Berg Equipment, and after retiring drove chase car for V&H. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. John’s Catholic Church.

God and family were everything to Charlie. As an accomplished accordion player, Polka music was a close third. He met Patti, the love of his life, at a polka dance and vowed that night he would marry her. After 7 children and 52 years of marriage he summed his love of family best, “Heaven will have to be a pretty special place to surpass my life here on earth.” Charlie was a man of integrity, guided by faith, selfless to a fault, and always strove to do the right thing. The world was a better place because of him, and now, Heaven is shining just a little brighter.

He is survived by his loving wife Patti, his children and grandchildren Christopher (Gina) Hastreiter: Cali, Jack, Wil, Gracie; Lisa (Dave) Hastreiter-Lamb: Summer, Kaleb; Kelly (Dan) McGiveron:  Ryleigh, Max, Jake; Melanie (Bob) Hanke: Calvin, Reese; Scott (Casey) Hastreiter: Austin, Brendan, Zach; Erin (Jesse) Miller: Violet; Kerri (Jeff) Nimtz: Ben, Charlie; siblings Marie (Sister Agnes Therese) Hastreiter; Anthony (Florence) Hastreiter, Barbara (Don) Kester; and sister-in-law Rita (Jim) Hastreiter.
