Re: Infant Death, 3600 Block N 6th Street, Wausau

On Thursday, October 18, 2018, at approximately 9:45 PM, officers and ambulance were dispatched to Northway Coin Laundry, located in the 900 block of N 3rd Avenue, City of Wausau, for the report of an unresponsive 2 month old male infant. The infant’s mother had just returned to the laundromat after picking the infant up from a baby-sitter’s residence, located in the 3600 block of N 6th Street, City of Wausau. When the mother went to remove the infant from his car seat, she found him unresponsive and immediately contacted police. The infant was declared dead on scene and preliminary information led investigators to believe the child had died while in the care of the baby-sitter.

The baby-sitter in question was identified as Marissa M Tietsort (DOB: 4/30/1990). On Friday, October 19, 2018, at approximately 4:16 AM, investigators located Tietsort at The Plaza Hotel, located in the 200 block of N 17th Avenue. At the time of contact, Tietsort had a valid warrant through Marathon County for a previous incident of Child Abuse (Marathon County Case Number 2018CF001155). Tietsort was arrested pursuant to the warrant and will appear in Marathon County Circuit Court on Monday, October 22, 2018, to face charges stemming from that separate incident.

On Friday, an autopsy of the infant was performed in Madison. Based upon preliminary autopsy findings, this case is being investigated as a homicide. Charges against Tietsort are expected to be recommended to the Marathon County District Attorney upon completion of the investigation and review of final autopsy results. The investigation is ongoing. Additional details will be provided when information for release becomes available.
