by Jason Zaleski – In a spectacular turnaround since their 2016 campaign, the Marshfield Tiger football team has tripled their win total from ’16 to ’17, is back in the playoffs as a #5 seed, conference co-champions and now has the formal accolades to go with it. According to a press release issued from Wisconsin Valley Conference/Valley Football Association Statistician, Jim Krueger, 19 Tigers have earned All-Conference Honors.

Goettl

We’ll begin with Valley Football Association Coach of the Year, Dennis Goettl. Goettl began this season as his 8th at the head coach position in Marshfield. The Tigers have won 5 of their past 6 games, including a homecoming victory against Wausau West 17-6 on October 13th. After losing back-to-back games early in the year against Appleton West and Hortonville, Coach Goettl has successfully steered his team into the playoffs for the first time since 2013.

Next up is Valley Football Association Linebacker of the Year, Jared

Johnsrud

Johnsrud. During Marshfield’s last 3 games, the defense has given up only 6 points and Johnsrud has been a big reason for that. Whether it’s the last 3 games or the entire season, the defensive leader is Johnsrud.

“Team play has been key this year, especially after losing Quinton (Alexander) early this year,” said Johnsrud. “We’ve rallied around each other on defense.”

During this, his senior year, coaches around the VFA have had to account for Johnsrud’s whereabouts on the field and have made their accounting official in the way of a vote, electing him the linebacker of the year.

Johnsrud said, “It was my first year at linebacker, so I’m very excited to win this award.”

Looking forward to the playoff game against Holmen, Johnsrud remarked, “We need to play hard. They’re a tricky team that likes to run the ball.”

Other Tigers receiving honors:
