Marshfield takes third at sixth leg of Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Golf Tournament

WAUSAU – D.C. Everest pulled ahead in the overall team standings after winning the sixth leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Golf Tournament on Tuesday at Greenwood Hills Country Club.

Everest, led by meet medalist Ben Peloquin’s 72, finished with a team score of 328, seven shots ahead of Stevens Point. Marshfield was third with a 339.

D.C. Everest pulled in front of Stevens Point by one-half point in the overall team standings, and Marshfield’s third-place finish damages its chance at the conference title.

The final meet of the seven-meet tournament is Friday at RiverEdge Golf Course in Marshfield. If either D.C. Everest or Stevens Point wins the team title at the meet, it would win the overall conference title. Marshfield would need to win and have both D.C. Everest and Stevens Point to finish no better fourth to escape with a championship.

Davis Rens shot a 79 to finish in a tie for sixth to lead the way for Marshfield. Jaxon Bulgrin had his best finish in the conference meets for Marshfield, taking eighth with an 83.

Cole Hanson shot an 88, Nate Boson had an 89 and Ben Baur had a 94 to round out the scoring for the Tigers.

Boson is eighth, Rens ninth and Baur 10th in the overall standings, putting themselves in strong position to earn second-team all-conference honors by finishing between sixth and 10th place.

Golf begins at 2 p.m. Friday.
