Marshfield Parks and Recreation Director Receives Service Award

Marshfield Parks and Recreation Director Justin Casperson has received the 2018 Dr. George Wilson Service Award from the Wisconsin Parks and Recreation Association.

This award is presented to a current or retired Wisconsin Parks and Recreation Association (WPRA) members who have distinguished themselves through persistent accomplishment and continuous service to the State Association and the Parks and Recreation field.  The nominee must hold current professional certification by the National Recreation and Park Association as a Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP).

Casperson has been a member of WPRA for the past 19 years and has served on the WPRA Board of Directors as secretary/treasurer, on several conference committees, the Aquatic Section Board of Directors as chair and a member-at-large, a Membership Services Survey Task Force member, and a Playground In-Service coordinator.

He worked in many communities prior to Marshfield, with the most recent positions as the Parks and Recreation Director for the Village of Germantown and Recreation Supervisor for the City of West Bend.

Previous awards include United Way Campaign Chair of the Year, WPRA President’s Award, WPRA Recreation Section Young Professional of the Year, Two-time National Parks and Recreation Association Gold Medal Finalist, WPRA Aquatic Section Outstanding Young Professional of the Year. Justin has attended many training institutes including Wisconsin Community Tree Management, Leadership Germantown,  Great Lakes Leadership Academy, Indiana University Executive Development Program & Greater West Bend Leadership Academy.

Locally, Casperson sits on the Marshfield Area Community Foundation Board of Directors and has been a United Way campaign chair for the past four years. In addition, he coaches youth basketball and softball for Columbus Catholic Schools. When he is not working or volunteering, he spends the majority of his time with his wife, Kelly and their two daughters, Samantha and Katelyn.

Casperson received his award from the Wisconsin Parks and Recreation Association in Green Bay on Thursday, November 1, 2018.
