One Dead, Second Injured Near Stratford, WI

Marathon County Sheriff’s Captain Greg Bean confirmed to WAOW that one person had died, and the second was injured, after two people were stabbed in a home off County Highway P this morning.

Wood County Dispatch notified Marshfield Police Department at 9:11am to be on the lookout for a potential stabbing suspect who had been last seen westbound on HWY 153 near Stratford in a 2013 Ford Escape.

Moments later, Marshfield Police Department was dispatched to the scene of a two-vehicle collision at Galvin and 4th Street. The suspect’s vehicle was at the scene of the crash, but the suspect had abandoned his vehicle and taken off on foot. While tracking the suspect, officers received report that a suspect had stolen a Pontiac Grand Prix from a parking lot in the area.

Officers located and pursued the vehicle down Veteran’s Parkway in a high-speed chase in excess of 78 MPH, which resulted in the suspect crashing. The suspect is now in custody.

Marshfield Police Department, Spencer Police Department, Marathon County Sheriff’s Department and Wisconsin State Patrol were on scene.

“I want to let everybody know that the public is not in danger. Unfortunately, we do have a death form this incident and a second victim that’s in the hospital, hopefully recovering from his injuries,” he said to WAOW reporter Tom Lally.

Captain Bean said they do not believe the stabbing to be a random incident – and that the suspect and the victims knew each other.
