Marshfield boys finish second at Wisconsin Valley Conference Cross Country Meet

RIB MOUNTAIN – The Marshfield boys finished second as all eight of its runners placed in the top 29 at the 2018 Wisconsin Valley Conference Meet on Saturday at Nine Mile Recreation Area.

Marshfield was second for the second time in the last three years after placing third a year ago. Stevens Point won the boys title for the 31st-straight time and for the 42nd time in the last 43 years.

Stevens Point also won the girls team title. The Panthers had won the girls championship five years in a row before Wausau West earned the title a year ago.

Joseph McKee led the way for the Tigers boys, taking third in 16:12.6, 1 second ahead of teammate and brother Joshua McKee, who was fourth.

Addison Hill took ninth (16:37.8), Carter Chojnacki was 17th (17:07.5), and Henry Hoerneman finished 20th (17:21.3) to round out the scoring for the Tigers.

The Marshfield girls took fifth with four runners finishing in the top 22.

Freshman Eliana Kanitz led the Tigers with a fourth-place finish in 19:40.3 in her first WVC meet. Kairi Kim was 18th (20:55.8), Bailey Bauer took 21st (21:09.3) and Meghan Jaeger finished 22nd (21:11.8) for Marshfield.

Stevens Point’s Chad Franz won the boys race in 15:53.7 and Point’s Roisin Willis was first in the girls race (18:10.8).

Marshfield will compete at the WIAA Division 1 sectional next Saturday, Oct. 20, at Standing Rock Park in Stevens Point.
