Marshfield baseball sweeps doubleheader against Merrill

MAUSTON – The Marshfield baseball team picked up a pair of Wisconsin Valley Conference victories on Tuesday, sweeping a doubleheader against Merrill by scores of 9-3 and 6-2, at the Woodside Sports Complex.

In Game 1, Preston Wagner struck out four to earn the win as the Tigers scored three runs in both the third and fifth innings to pull away.

Wagner had a single and a double, and drove in three runs, and Mason Coffren and Ben Gust each had two RBIs in the victory for the Tigers. Coffren had three hits, and Gust and Ryan Krueger each had two as the Tigers cracked out 12 hits in all.

Will Voss and Coffren combined on a two-hitter in Game 2 for the Tigers. Voss earned the win, striking out four in five innings of work.

Brant Bohman went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, and Coffren and Wagner each had a pair of hits for Marshfield.

Marshfield’s next scheduled game is Monday at Mosinee.
