Growing up, Elizabeth Olson never gave much thought to how clothing fit. That changed after she started having children and noticed her body changing.

“I quickly realized that clothing isn’t made for everyone and I had to actually think about what I bought, how it fit me, how it felt, whether it was comfortable of not,” she said. “I really started to get fed up with clothing in general!”

Talking with other women, Olson discovered that they were also having issues with underwear either being too small or too big. That set her on a path to finding a solution.

“I needed to figure out what was wrong with the way underwear fit,” she said.

Two and a half years later, Olson has founded her own underwear line called Cheiks (pronounced “cheeks”) that offers 27 sizes from XS to 5XL, each with three variations. Each pair is designed to be comfortable without slipping or riding up and uses lining made with 100% organic cotton that’s never been bleached or dyed.

“This is about being comfortable in your own body,” Olson said. “Having infections isn’t fun, having pinching and pulling isn’t fun — and if you don’t feel comfortable in your own skin, you don’t feel beautiful. My goal with photography and this underwear line has always been to make women feel beautiful.”

A Kickstarter campaign with a $6,800 goal will help Olson push forward with the project and decide which sizes are needed on the Cheiks website. Backers can pre-order sizes and, depending on the level of support, receive a custom photoshoot through her business, Elizabeth Olson photography. The campaign runs until September 4.
