Gilman holds down Columbus Catholic softball

GILMAN – Gilman held Marshfield Columbus Catholic to just one hit in a 7-1 win on Friday in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division softball game.

Gilman scored a pair of runs in the first inning and added four more in the fifth to bust open the game.

Brooke Neider had an RBI single – the only hit of the game for the Dons – to score Hailey Van Wyhe with their lone run in the top of the fifth.

Addison Baierl suffered the loss for Columbus, striking out four and walking six in a complete-game effort.

Columbus Catholic is now 5-6 overall and in the Cloverbelt East. The Dons will play at the Wisconsin Rapids Assumption Royal Rumble on Saturday.

With the victory, Gilman remains in first place in the conference standings at 9-2 and is 12-2 overall.

Columbus will host Gilman on Monday at the Marshfield Fairgrounds beginning at 4 p.m. Columbus will then play Neillsville at 6 p.m.
