Columbus Catholic softball loses two close ones at Assumption Royal Rumble

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic softball team lost a pair of games at the Wisconsin Rapids Assumption Royal Rumble on Saturday.

The Dons lost to Assumption 12-8 and Rosholt 7-4, falling to 5-8 this season.

Columbus led 8-7 after a six-run fifth inning against Assumption.

Brooke Neider had a two-run double, Annie Baierl had an RBI single, Addison Baierl scored on a bunt by Taylor Tolppi, and the Dons took the lead on when Annie Baierl scored on a wild pitch.

Assumption responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning and added two insurance runs in the sixth to win by four.

Neider finished with four RBIs, Annie Baierl had three hits, and Maren Seefluth and Addison Baierl each had two hits for the Dons.

Jessie Grundhoffer had two doubles, a triple and two RBIs for the Royals (9-3).

Rosholt scored five runs in the first two innings and never trailed to beat the Dons in the second game of the day.

Seefluth had two doubles and Addison Baierl drove in two runs for Columbus.

Columbus hosts Gilman and Neillsville at the Marshfield Fairgrounds on Monday beginning at 4 p.m.

Assumption’s other game at the tournament was not reported.
