Columbus Catholic baseball wins wild one over Neillsville

MARSHFIELD – The Columbus Catholic baseball team garnered its first win of the season with a wild 13-11 victory over Neillsville in Cloverbelt Conference East Division action Tuesday at Jack Hackman Field.

The Dons scored five times in the third inning, and after Neillsville rallied to take the lead, had seven runs combined in the fifth and sixth to pull ahead.

Jarred Mandel earned the win, allowing one run in a 1 1/3 innings of relief for the Dons.

The game was marred by 23 walks – 13 by Neillsville pitchers and 10 from Columbus Catholic.

The Dons are now 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the Cloverbelt East. Neillsville drops to 4-6 and 3-4 in conference play.

Noah Taylor, Mandel and Bryce Fuerlinger each had two hits, and Fuerlinger had three RBIs for the Dons.

Columbus is off Monday when it plays at Neillsville. Neillsville plays at Granton on Thursday.
