Auburndale boys basketball blasts Wausau Newman Catholic

WAUSAU – The Auburndale boys basketball team came out hot and never let up, rolling past Wausau Newman Catholic 82-44 in a Marawood Conference South Division matchup Tuesday night at Newman Catholic High School.

Auburndale, coming off its first conference loss of the season last Friday to unbeaten Stratford, established dominance early, and raced out to a 48-29 lead by halftime.

The Apaches (11-2, 8-1 Marawood South) finished off the win by holding Newman Catholic (5-8, 2-7 Marawood South) to 15 points in the second half.

Cooper Weinfurter had 19 points and Carter Wilcott added 18 points for Auburndale. Hunter Wright chipped in 16 points, Fletcher Raab had 13, and Colton Wright scored 12 in the win.

Newman Catholic made nine 3-pointers, including four by Ben Leischer, who led the Cardinals with 18 points.

Auburndale plays at Chequamegon on Friday.
