Marshfield, WI (OnFocus) After Marshfield Area Pet Shelter rescued a litter of puppies found abandoned in a local dumpster late February, an Antigo nonprofit stepped up to help.

Caring Paws announced last month that it would match $2,000 in donations through March 31.

Community support raised more than double that amount. A check for $6,396 was presented to the pet shelter Wednesday. Donations came from around the state and even a few from across the country.

Eight newborn puppies were discovered Feb. 28 in Marshfield in a resident’s dumpster. The litter plus one additional puppy were given to MAPS for care. The puppies, an Australian Shepherd/Lab mix, will be available for adoption after April 11.
